Dissection and Percussion

One of last week’s highlight in our school is the long-awaited frog dissection that is part of the Apologia Biology program.  Older girls decided to do this together since younger will be doing Biology this coming school year anyway.

The younger ones and I missed seeing the whole thing since older son had a tennis session while the younger two were cooling off at the pool.  We were there for the perch dissection a few days before but that wasn’t as exciting as cleaning a fish straight from the market.  So, smaller ones busied themselves making  some percussion instruments which we had read about in our music lessons.  Finding empty cans of varying sizes in the kitchen pantry, they added a handful of rice to each one, and got a pair of sticks each.  Here they are hitting, shaking, and scratching their homemade equipment.
